About the Random Pub Finder

The first Pub Guide began in an attempt to find one decent pub between Birkbeck College and Regent's Park. Within five weeks we had found 40. Imbued with a sense of providing a service to the pub going community (and needing an excuse to drink more beer) the original Pub Guide team (Fred and Austen, with occasional interjections from Mark) expanded their horizons to take in regions as diverse as Whitechapel and Essex Road.

The records of this initial adventure have now been almost entirely lost, as the floppy disk on which the master copy resided died somewhere in the move from Oval to Canning Town.

The latest version, along with the revolutionary idea of the Pub Randomizer, came about due to the constant inability of Fred and Doog to decide where to meet for a drink. They have decided to save the world from the dreadful modern dilemma of having far too much choice...

The aims of the Pub Guide are to bring you pubs that have either an excellent atmosphere, are completely weird, or have at least some distinguishing feature to set them apart from the dreary multitude. We currently have a policy of not reviewing the sort of chain pubs where each pub is just a little clone of all the others (eg Slug and Lettuce, Wetherspoons, All Bar One etc) but we may at some point create a guide to each chain. Other plans for the future involve reviews of trendy bars, cocktail bars and possibly even some non alcoholic places.

Release yourself from the tyranny of choice! Let the Randomizer decide!

The People

does all the technical stuff. His interest in pubs started at an early age when he discovered the joys of drinking cheap bitter instead of studying for his A-Levels. By day he does something with computers.

Fred Flange is a man of mystery but manages to visit a lot of pubs.

Paul Melton became a reviewer after surveying the wreckage left over from the Hammers descent from the Premiership last season to become just another shite first division team. Post match conversations over several pints with Fred ultimately turned to pubs and the mutual appreciation thereof. This seemed the perfect way of overcoming the feeling of doom darkening the skies of East London. After a few more pints I was introduced to the Randompubfinder and felt it my duty to serve the drinking public of London by visiting as many pubs as possible and finding interesting things to say about them. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. Paul pretends to be a Structural Engineer between the hours of 9am - 5:30pm Monday - Friday
