Richmond pubs
The first four letters of the name pretty much sum up the population of this part of London. Richmond Hill offers panoramic views and the park is an escape from urban life. Even though it has a tube staion, it doesn't really feel like London at all.
The Dysart, 135 Petersham Rd, Petersham, Richmond, TW10 7AA
Petersham, like Ham just down the road, feels like the middle of the country, and before us on the road sat what appeared to be a magnificent country pub. By any standards a huge affair, with balconies, gables and a giant beer garden out the front, we thought we'd struck gold. Then we went inside. In what must rank as one of the most bizarre refits of all time, the interior has gone all ecclesiastical. Norman Gothic arches, medieval stone facing, and church organ pipes provide the same sort of bizarre atmosphere as many of the Irish pubs in Northern Germany, where axes hang from the walls and maidens in diaphonous gowns wander round serving guinness chilled to the point where it tastes like lager. This isn't quite so bad (although the welcoming "NO CHILDREN AT THE BAR" sign can be a little off-putting) but it's still a bit of a shock. Maybe this place will appeal to the transgressives amongst us who want to feel like they're drinking lager in a church, but I prefer my pubs to be like, well, pubs.

This is a cool place! Ended up here on my birthday. The band kept the place lively untill late and although we were the last ones to leave, we weren't rushed out at all!

Princes Head, 28 The Green, Richmond, TW9 1LX
The Princes Head is a delightful traditional pub just off Richmond Green. It is certainly not lush and the seating is fine for short periods. If I had a slight criticism it would be it could do with a make over modernising it slightly. Good service with friendly staff, well kept beer and reasonable food. No live television was visible during my visit or loud music - a real plus point. It is certainly worth going to if you are in the area.

If you do not mind a slightly spit and sawdust pub that lacks an element of comfort then The Princes Head ticks all the right boxes. The food is both of a reasonable quality and price. It is a Fullers pub and it serves well kept Pride and ESB. Located in a quiet area of Richmond just off the green. Can be popular with office workers between 5.30 and 7.00. Recommended.

The Roebuck, 130 Richmond Hill, Richmond, Surrey, TW10 6RN
When Mick Jagger drags himself out of bed, after a night of shagging 20 year old models, and looks out of his window he is confronted with one of the finest views in London. Below his window he can see a pastoral scene full of cows next to the slowly flowing Thames. Looking further he can see Twickenham and the planes leaving Heathrow and beyond that who knows what can be seen on a clear day. I can be 99.9% confident in saying whoever you are you'll never be able to afford to live here but you can still visit for free. Which is where The Roebuck comes in. To tell you the truth we didn't spend much time in the pub, just got our drinks and ambled across the road to take in the glorious view. If the pub is quiet, you can grab a window seat and take in the view from there. As we sat on a bench, the rain poured down in a typical British summer way, but that didn't stop us appreciating the fantastic surroundings. When I think about why I live in London, this spot comes near the top.
