Lifeless wasteland most notable for the sinister grin of its giant plastic cat.
The Copperfield, Station Approach, Catford Bridge, SE6 4RE
Catford is rightly famous for the giant plastic cat that sits atop a shopping centre more bleak than a night spent watching Celebrity Big Brother. In such environs, anything that can drag itself up from the quagmire of the truly awful deserves maximum respect, and that the Copperfield manages to be so brashly cheerful and good-natured borders on the miraculous. A large, faux-Tudor building close to Catford Bridge, the robust interior boasts pool, darts, large tv screens and lashings of cheap booze; just perfect for its primary client base of national and international students. Slightly dodgy round the edges, it is nevertheless a reasonable place to drink if you find yourself stranded in the area.
