350-year-old stormer in the rarefied atmosphere of Beckenham, that somehow manages to combine football with old ladies reading by the open fire. From the weatherboarded exterior to the ultra-traditional décor (red carpet, worn leather seats, dark wooden beams) it has stuck by the olde worlde coaching inn standards, serving a wide range of real ales and a vast and sumptuous food platter. The TV stays on only as long as the football does, then it is switched straight off, and the music is kept quiet enough to not interrupt any ongoing conversations or the concentration of the old ladies. A surprising survival in a wasteland of posh, where one of the few other decent pubs in the area has been turned into a Zizzi.
