NOTE:The ascent to the roof of South London from the station (otherwise known as base camp) is a challenge to those used to the flatter parts of London. Fortunately all that effort is rewarded by this watering hole that sits at the top of the hill and lies just across the road from the park.  A large banner tacked to the facade boasts that this pub was awarded the accolade of South East London Pub of the Year 2011  by the local branch of CAMRA. Once inside you can see why. They have a truly mind-boggling array of real ales on offer (we counted 11 on our visit). These can be enjoyed in the large open bar area (that is filled with a variety of tables, chairs and sofas depending on your mood) or outside during warmer weather. Apart from the obvious bacchanalian delights, entertainment comes in the form of regular quiz competitions, jazz nights, open mike evenings or the pool table. It's definitely worth heading down to Crystal Palace to sample this one.
