The White Horse, 1-3 Parsons Green, SW6 4UL
The White Horse, 1-3 Parsons Green
Known by some as “The Sloaney Pony”, this establishment has a reputation for attracting local people: braying rugby types and the type of women who look like they have just fallen out of the pages of a glossy magazine. There wasn’t too much evidence of that on our visit and we were pleasantly surprised by the mix of punters: a smattering of the aforementioned locals, suits and some builders lamenting England’s lacklustre performance at the World Cup. Depending on your mood there are a variety of seating options: a) the large terrace out at the front overlooking the green, the perfect place to people-watch and enjoy a barbeque on a summer evening; b) the cavernous bar area – for that ‘real pub’ experience and for viewing the cricket on the telly; or thirdly c) the restaurant which serves a variety of delicious sounding food, albeit at Fulham prices. There is an excellent range of real ales – all reasonably priced considering the pub’s location. Not bad at all.

It is 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and this pub is packed. Not only that, there are a dozen morris dancers outside. It becomes clear that the customers are not your usual pub crowd. Their beards, woolly jumpers and half-pint glasses give them away as CAMRA members on a tasting session. And there is good reason to choose this pub for such an event because the selection of real ales is huge. We buy our drinks and sit out the front, overlooking the green, next to a barbeque serving massive (and tasty) burgers. Finally the morris dancers stop jangling and knocking sticks together and we can get on with a few afternoon drinks. Apparently this pub has the nickname of "Sloany Pony", so you can probably work out the usual crowd who populate the place, but clearly not today.
