Notting Hill pubs
If the combined presence of David "Dave" Cameron, George Osborne and Damon Albarn doesn't put you off the area, the antique dealers on Portobello Road most certainly will. They have two modes: Lovejoy on speed, and Lovejoy on ketamine. Personalities notwithstanding, Notting Hill is a beautiful area to walk about, retains some vestiges of its old cultural mix and contains several cracking pubs.

The Earl of Lonsdale, 277-281 Westbourne Grove, W11 2QA
Situated towards the eastern end of Portobello Road's filmset vista, the Lonsdale turns its back on the vast hordes of antique-hungry tourists, choosing not to open out onto the street in the continental style adopted by so many of the surrounding bars. Some people will like that, some won't: I miss the invariably fascinating hours spent people watching, but enjoy the privacy and the more relaxed, less tourist-y mood engendered by having a good solid wall between me and the ravening hordes. This is a Sam Smith's pub, so decorated very traditionally, with the by-now-familiar little doors partitioning off areas around the bar. It also provides a huge lounge at the back, and a large garden to one side where smokers puff like chimneys and fondly recall their days of poisoning everyone else too. Gets pretty crowded on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, but is difficult to beat if you're after a traditional, laid back pub in the area.

Pretty nice, if unspectacular, boozer loafing about just south of Notting Hill Gate. Has sky sports, a good line in outside tables and does all the usual blah.
